Naomi Shemer, one of Israel's most prolific song writers, is behind many of Israel's classic songs. One of her more popular songs is Eucalyptus Grove (חורשת האקליפטוס). The song had been performed by many Israeli artists. However, Shemer probably never imagined her song would be sung over at the Music Idol contest in Bulgaria, by a young Bulgarian woman named Preslava Peycheva. This woman, who seems like she just memorized the Hebrew words by heart, has given this beautiful song a beautiful performance. For those who don't speak Hebrew, I've added subtitles of the Hebrew lyrics. |

Here is one of the original performances of this song by singer Ofira Gluska:
A very credible performance by someone who does not speak Hebrew. She seemed as though she understood the meaning of the words and sung with clarity and emotion. Yasher Koach

Wow, I have not heard this songs in years...the Bulgarian singer was awesome. She really nailed most of the words, but her voice is beautiful. Also watched Ofira's version. So beautiful.
Thanks for sharing with us.

It brought tears to my eyes. I have heard this song many times by
different israeli singers.
Beautifully delivered by the young Bulgarian singer.

Musically it's one of the loveliest renditions I've heard of a song that demands a singer with a wide octave range plus emotion. A shame the Hebrew is far from "almost" -- but kudos for such a tough task and regardless it's still beautiful. (By the way thanks for the excellent subtitles but I believe rain [geshem] should be bridge [gesher]. You can hear it in the original.)
